Dear Alumnae/i ,

Greetings from the College of Arts and Sciences. We have had an exciting start to the fall semester, with full classes, dynamic new programs like Informatics, and new collaborations with sites like the Boston Union School and the Gardner Museum. Our move-in day went beautifully and we received lots of positive feedback from students and their families about the strong support we provided to our new students. Our graduate student numbers are higher than they've ever been. We continue to evaluate our offerings in light of the economic downturn and in the spirit of responsible stewardship. Our rankings in US News remain strong and we have a lot of which we are deservedly proud.

One major source of pride is our annual Convocation event, and I hope that you enjoy the story on it here. Convocation is a highlight of the academic year and of the undergraduate experience. There we honor faculty and students for their academic achievements. It was especially inspiring to see the seniors and the first-year students and to know what a powerful impact a Simmons education has on our students. Provost Seymour's message about determination served as an eloquent reminder to our students about all the ways that Simmons students and Simmons alums make a difference in the world.
