The conference features Academy Award nominee Viola Davis; former Wall Street banker Sallie Krawcheck; technology thought-leader Charlene Li; fashion innovator Josie Natori; crisis management expert Judy Smith; and playwright Anna Deavere Smith.

Myrlie Evers-Williams '78EE, '01HD to Deliver Invocation at Inauguration

(January 8, 2013) -- President Obama has chosen civil rights activist and author Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow of slain civil rights icon Medgar Evers, to deliver the invocation at his public swearing-in on Martin Luther King Day, January 21. This is the first time a woman and a layperson has been selected to deliver this public prayer. Evers-Williams is a former chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She is an alumna of a Simmons School of Management executive education program, and Simmons awarded her an honorary degree in 2001.

Mass General Heart Center Is Named for E. Gerald Corrigan and Dean Cathy Minehan

(August 2, 2012) -- The commitment to Massachusetts General Hospital shown by E. Gerald Corrigan, PhD, and Cathy Minehan is well known. Cathy has been chair of the hospital's Board of Trustees since mid 2008, and five years ago, Jerry made a gift that both named the cardiac intensive care unit and established the Elizabeth Anne and Karen Barlow Corrigan Women's Heart Health Program.

The couple recently made an extraordinary $20 million gift that supports innovation and research in the Women's Heart Health Program and throughout the MGH Heart Center. In recognition of this, Mass General leadership has named the MGH Heart Center after Jerry and Cathy. Going forward, it will be known as the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center.

(June 22, 2012) -- The Simmons students in the Masters in Communications Management program recently launched the inaugural issue of their new Management magazine. One of the issues they tackle is the effectiveness of women's networks within organizations. Some of the findings are not surprising, like the fact that women who are active in their organizations find them effective. But the authors of the article (aptly named "Panacea or Placebo"), Patricia Deyton and Deborah Marlino, have some useful conclusions on how to make women's networks more effective for all women in the company.

(May 20, 2011) -- Patricia Deyton, Director of the Center for Gender in Organizations, and former Executive Director of the Council of World Women Leaders, has been invited by the government of Lithuania to participate in a seminar entitled "Women Enhancing Democracy (WED)" on June 30, 2011. This seminar will take place on the margins of the Community of Democracies Ministerial. It is also hoped that Secretary Clinton will be participating in the seminar.

This is a self-paced online course with virtual and face-to-face options. The course has three modules. LONDON, England (CNN) -- Even in an era in which gender equality within business corporations is an officially-acknowledged -- if by no means fully realized -- idea, it seems there are some supposed distinctions between the sexes which are still ok to make.

One business school, however, begs to differ. New research by the Simmons School of Management, based in Boston, Massachusetts, contends that not only do female managers take more risks than believed, but that they should also more actively seek out credit for their boldness.
