President Drinan's Summer Message - June 2013
As we close another wonderful academic year, I want to offer my congratulations to the newest members of the Simmons alumnae/i community who graduated at our 108th Commencement on Friday, May 10. It is an honor to be a part of this wonderful ceremony each year. I wish all of our new alumnae/i the very best, and hope that each and every one of you will stay connected to Simmons as you begin the next stage of your life.
The night before Commencement, we hosted our annual Commencement Recognition Celebration with members of the 1899 Society, the John Simmons Society, the GOLD Society, and this year's honorary degree recipients. The honorary degree recipients present offered remarks on their accomplishments, and I am so proud that these impressive individuals are now a part of the Simmons community. The highlight of the event for me, though, was introducing the recipients of the President’s 2013 Recognition Award. This year, we were able to designate more than $150,000 to reduce the student loan commitments of 17 students in honor of their extraordinary commitments to the Simmons community.
These awards are made possible because of generous gifts to Simmons, particularly through The Simmons Fund. The students who won these awards would not have accomplished all that they did without support from loyal, dedicated alumnae/i, parents, and friends. Thank you for continuing to give generously to Simmons to make this kind of student-centered support possible.
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful summer!
