The SOMAA's goal is to provide all SOM alumnae with opportunities for networking, professional development, and to share your unique talents with other alumnae. SOMAA is governed by its board of directors. The board meets monthly to strategize and plan its activities for the year. Recently, SOMAA changed its organizational structure to better serve its alumnae community by eliminating its membership dues structure. Although these dues were an integral component of the SOMAA's operations, it took a great deal of time, energy and money to raise the necessary funds to fulfill its mission. Today, the SOMAA is funded by the Simmons Office of Alumnae/i Relations & Annual Giving, which allows the board to plan and execute programming for its alumnae community and help support the SOM. Under this new structure, the SOMAA is able to implement new activities while it maintains its standard programs including:
- The semi-annual SOMAA Speaker Series
- Reunion Weekend Celebratory Reception
- Annual SOM Alumnae Holiday Party
- SOMAA Annual Meeting
