Marta Crilly '11LS, '11GS and Kristen Swett '98LS Archive Boston Marathon Memorial Site

(May 7, 2013) -- Marta Crilly '11LS, '11GS and Kristen Swett '98LS, assistant archivists for the City of Boston, worked to preserve the fragile messages that are part of a makeshift Boston Marathon memorial in Copley Square. Posters and paper chains were disentangled from the fences and will be moved to the city archives in West Roxbury where they will be catalogued, photographed, and shelved in special acid-free folders and boxes.

2013 Children's Literature Summer Institute Speakers Announced

(May 5, 2013) -- The Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons College will dedicate its 2013 summer institute to the theme of "Love Letters" on the last weekend in July. Among the speakers who will attend the Institute are Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman, M. T. Anderson, Shane Evans, Jack Gantos, Jo Knowles, Jason Chin, Jeanne Birdsall, Wong Herbert Yee, David Hyde Costello, Deborah Heiligman, and Vicky Smith.

Megan Dowd Lambert '02GS Engages Readers at Akron Art Museum

(March 22, 2013) -- Megan Dowd Lambert '02GS, a Simmons College instructor, developed the Whole Book Approach at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art to engage children and adults with the picture book as art. Lambert's interactive story time will include opportunities to discuss how pictures, design, and production elements interact with the text.

Morris Award, which honors a book written for young adults by a previously unpublished author. Wicked Author Gregory Maguire '78GS Speaks at National Children's Literature Conference Held at Simmons

(June 14, 2012) -- More than 400 scholars, critics, and literary professionals are expected to attend the 39th Annual Children's Literature Association Conference hosted by Simmons and featuring renown author Gregory Maguire '78GS. Maguire is a Simmons alumnus and former children's literature professor whose book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West was adapted into a hit Broadway play.

The three-day national conference will be held June 14-16 and Maguire will deliver the distinguished Francelia Butler Lecture on Friday, June 15.

(May 1, 2012) -- Medical oncologist Janet Gargiulo, M.D., president elect of the Albany Medical College Alumni Association, has received the Ralph O. Claypoole Memorial Award from the American College of Physicians (ACP), the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States. The award was bestowed at ACP's annual Awards and Convocation Ceremony in New Orleans, LA, Thursday, April 19.

Play Published by Janet Neipris '71GS Dispatched to Iran

(December 14, 2011) -- "A Small Delegation," penned by Janet Neipris '71GS, was converted into Persian by Talin Abadian and published by Afraz in 120 pages and 1100 copies. The play deals with the relationship between an American university professor and his Chinese translator in China as symbols of East-West dialogue; however, the western viewpoint dominates over the whole space.

Janet Neipris '71GS was born in Boston, graduated from Tufts University, and received an MA in English from Simmons College and an MFA in Playwriting from Brandeis University. Her plays have been produced at theaters in the U.S and internationally.

Bright has since become the first person to earn a Master of Science degree in Applied Behavior Analysis with an animal specialty at Simmons College where she is now a doctoral candidate.
